Hidden by the grapes is a trio hailing from graz, austria. the band is known to describe their style as post-everything while others would say they play indie or alternative. their music draws influence from post-punk or post-rock but generally speaking it is very hard to include hidden by the grapes in a specific subgenre. using three voices, a synthesizer and a keyboard originally intended to be played by little children the band definitely does not fit into the typical rock-trio cliché. the debut album “noise-operated jazz” received early praise from critics who found the record “really refreshing”. a 7’’ vinyl disc was later released on their own label “sooder records” as split with the post-rockers lambda. the second full-length album “if radios spoke with their hearts” will be released on june 22, 2012 on the well-known austrian label pumpkin records.

Fog Electric is the follow-up to Grappling Hooks, the band’s debut which received massive critical acclaim when it was released in 2010. Childhood and its memories – these have always been important topics for Gianluca Divirgilio. On his debut album “On A Sad Sunny Day”, the mastermind of Arctic Plateau came to terms with his relationship to that period of his life and his memories of a wholly different perception of the world. With his new album “The Enemy Inside”, the Italian musician continues this wallowing and yearning, but he also contrasts it with the realities of adult life in order to criticize the loss of childlike innocence and the blunting of human emotions.

In musical terms, Divirgilio pushes even deeper forward into the realm he entered with his debut “On A Sad Sunny Day” in 2009: dreamy Post Rock meets melancholic singer/songwriter elements, and sometimes this mixture is dragged down to earth by crushing guitars. Hence, the conflict between the world of childhood and adult life is reflected in the instrumentation and the arrangements as well. Divirgilio has this to say: “We are living in a small world full of wonderful and interesting things – it’s only that we as adults have become too blunt to remind ourselves of this fact.” With “The Enemy Inside”, he invites us to become aware of this fact again and maybe discover a spark of our former innocence within ourselves.

Initially a project started out as a series of jam sessions with various musicians, Priority Mail eventually became a concrete group during the winter of 2010. The first lineup included Andrew Pearson, Jason Peters, Justin Peters, Drew Slack, and Nate Stephens. After a few small shows, Andrew left the band. The four continued on writing and performing, often bringing their friend, Greg Goeden in to play trumpet during shows. In Fall of 2011, it was decided that Greg would become a permanent member of the band.

Versa formed in January of 2006, in a bid to lose a Battle of the bands at a campus pub. Encouraged by an unprecedented success in this endeavour, the band continued to work on original material. Traversing the expanses between soft, ambient noise and driving, cataclysmic guitars, drums and keys, the songs range from simple affairs of three or four minutes to quarter-of-an-hour epics.

Recognized for their emotionally-charged recordings and live appearances, Versa performs and records mostly-instrumental post rock that incorporates elements of progressive, indie pop, folk, and ambient music. Versa released their second album, The Decline & Fall of... in July, 2010 (following their eponymous debut in October, 2007). The album has received positive reviews, with critics calling it “an album of hope and nostalgia”, “a hell of an album,” and “intelligent, emotional... deserv[ing] some love”. Versa was recently short-listed for Monday Magazine's 2010 M Award for Victoria's Favourite Band. After a brief hiatus following the release of The Decline & Fall of..., Versa has re-emerged in the new year, writing new material, performing shows, and recording a new EP released at the end of 2011. The Decline & Fall of... was self-recorded and produced and is distributed by indiePool, and the new "Common Things" EP is self-recorded, produced, and
distributed.
